Are you looking for a healthy snack that’s also delicious and easy to make? These Spirulina Pumpkin Seed Chocolate Chip Bites are the answer! Made with spirulina powder, pumpkin seed meal and naturally sweetened with maple syrup, they’re the ultimate superfood-packed treat that will give you the energy you need to power through your day.
I am a huge fan of no-bake bites and I have so much fun experimenting with the different flavors, superfood ingredients and colors! Maybe you’ve seen my Oatmeal Raisin Protein Cookie Dough Bites, Almond Flour Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, or these delicious Sunflower Seed Chocolate Brownie Bites.
These Spirulina Pumpkin Seed Chocolate Chip Bites are so fun because they are green! And the best part is they pack some amazing health benefits thanks to the spirulina powder and pumpkin seed meal.
Spirulina powder is a nutrient-dense powder made from algae that grows in both salt and fresh water. Spirulina contains phycocyanin, an antioxidant that gives spirulina its unique blue-green color and aids in reducing inflammation.
Aside from offering gorgeous plant-based, dye-free coloring to your recipes, spirulina has some really beneficial health benefits.
Spirulina may increase production of nitric oxide to help reduce blood pressure.
Spirulina may enhance exercise endurance and increased muscle strength.
Some evidence suggests that spirulina may benefit people with type 2 diabetes by reducing fasting blood sugar levels.
Fun fact! It can actually be grown in space for use by astronauts!
Spirulina powder. I actually used blue spirulina in these bites, I was expecting them to be more blue colored, but I think paired with the pumpkin seed meal they were more green. They did turn more blue the longer I had them in the fridge. Either way, you may use whichever spirulina powder you want- blue or green. The color of the bites may vary depending on which one and the brand you use.
Flour. The used pumpkin seed flour/meal in these bites to make them allergy friendly and nut free, but you may also use almond flour or sunflower seed flour. Again, the color may vary depending on which of those you choose. I would not use oat, coconut, or any other gluten-free flour as the dough may come out super dry.
Syrup. You may use maple or agave syrup. I used maple, but either one will work.
Nut/Seed butter. I use sunflower seed butter to keep these bites allergy friendly, but you may also use peanut butter, cashew butter or almond butter or preferred.
To make these no-bake snack bites, simply combine everything together in a bowl, roll and chill! Keep them stored in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 5 days- I highly doubt they’ll last that long 😜.
So as you can see, these gorgeous little green gems offer some amazing health benefits while satisfying your sweet-snack tooth! That’s what I call a superfood treat folks!

In a large bowl add all of the ingredients and stir together to form a cookie dough. Using ½ tablespoon, scoop the batter and roll into balls. Store covered in the fridge.
* You can use blue or green spirulina. I used blue.
