ToggleThis Chick-fil-A copycat recipe was a must this summer. We hit record high heat this year, so naturally I’m looking for all the ways to cool down in a delicious (and simple!) way. It doesn’t get any more delicious or any simpler than this Easy Lemonade Milkshake! All you need is a lemon, your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream and water. Optionally you could add 1/2 cup of sugar, but because most dairy-free ice creams already add sugar, I omitted the added sugar.
This milkshake is thin enough to drink with a straw, but thicker than just drinking a lemonade. It’s zesty and refreshing, tart and sweet all at the same time.
Lemon 🍋 I blended a whole lemon into this milkshake! It’s the first time I’ve done this… it added so much more lemon flavor without having to juice or zest a bunch of lemons! The lemon flavor is strong, which I like!, but if you prefer, you can use half of a lemon. You will need a high speed, high quality blender if you blend the whole lemon. Alternatively, you can use 1 cup of lemon juice instead.
Vanilla ice cream🍦 I used an oat milk based dairy-free vanilla ice cream. You will need 2 pints to make 4 servings.
Water. Before you start to make the milkshake, measure 1 cup of water and stick it in the freezer. You want the water to be ICE COLD. You could also add ice to the milkshake until you achieve the desired milkshake consistency.
Sugar. Adding sugar is totally optional. The vanilla ice cream will most likely have sugar in it already, but if using a whole lemon is too tart you have the option to add 1/2 cup of sugar.
This copycat recipe could not be easier to make at home, so there’s no excuse not to! This way you know exactly what is going into it AND you can make this milkshake dairy-free and vegan!
First, wash the lemon really well. Since you’re going to be consuming the whole lemon, you want to wash the lemon peel well. I used dish soap and rinsed it very well.
Add the whole lemon to the blender along with the ice cold water. Blend until smooth.
Then, add the ice cream and blend until smooth! Enjoy immediately. Add another scoop of ice cream on top if desired, but this is optional.
OPTION to add in 1/2 cup of sugar or ice cubes after you taste test it!
