Making your own peanut butter at home is so easy and so incredibly delicious! This Homemade Roasted Peanut Butter is made with just 2 ingredients in a food processor or blender. Simply roast raw peanuts with a little salt and then blend them into a creamy and dreamy peanut butter with no added oils!

I love love love peanut butter. It’s good in desserts, it’s delicious on toast, of course there’s the infamous peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and peanut butter is even yummy in savory dishes! What I don’t love is that a lot of peanut butter in grocery stores are loaded with other ingredients, like added oils and sugars. There are some pretty great options that just contain peanuts and salt, however, I really don’t like how runny they are sometimes. Making your own peanut butter at home is so easy, and it turns out to be the perfect consistency! I may never buy peanut butter again ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

Why You’ll Love Making Your Own Peanut Butter

Itโ€™s SO delicous! I don’t know why homemade peanut butter tastes so good. There are some really great store-bought peanut butters but there’s just something magical about making your own peanut butter.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Make sure you buy the freshest, organic raw peanuts for the best tasting peanut butter!

Easy to make. Making your own peanut butter at home is so easy! You just need 2 ingredients, a cookie sheet and a quality blender.

Minimal ingredients. I love knowing exactly what is going into my food. I don’t like to buy peanut butter with oils or added sugars in them, so making my own at home is a great alternative.

Make it how you like it! I mean, peanut butter is just delicious, but homemade peanut butter is UH-mazing! Not only does homemade peanut butter taste better, but you can adjust the taste of the peanut butter to how you like it. Add salt, or no added salt. Add a sweetener or spices. Add cocoa powder to make chocolate peanut butter (drool!)… experiment with it!

Fun! Making your own peanut butter at home is fun! My kids love to watch the whole peanuts turn into a creamy peanut butter that they love so much, so it’s also a great learning experience for kids too ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Ingredients

Raw peanuts. You’ll want to purchase raw skinless peanuts, not already roasted peanuts- although those can work if they are dry roasted peanuts with no additional ingredients and you’re in a time crunch.

raw peanuts.

Salt. I like to use pink Himalayan salt so the taste is mildly salted and not overbearing.

Optional Add-Ins

I don’t have specific measurements for additional ingredients you may want to add into your peanut butter, but here are a few options:

Maple syrup. If you’re looking for a natural sweetener to add into the peanut butter, maple syrup would be a delicious choice!

Vanilla. Pure vanilla extract could add a delicious vanilla flavor to the peanut butter.

Chocolate chips. Fold in dark chocolate chips for a fun, delicious chocolate chip peanut butter!

Cinnamon. I love cinnamon! Cinnamon peanut butter would be so delicious- or even better maple cinnamon peanut butter!!!

Cacao powder. Add in some raw cacao powder to make a delicious chocolat-y peanut butter flavor.

Equipment Needed To Make Homemade Peanut Butter

To make peanut butter at home you will need a good quality blender or food processor (or food processor attachment). You don’t need to have the most expensive blender out there, but a decent quality blender will allow for extra smooth and creamy peanut butter.

You will also need a baking sheet to roast the peanuts.

How To Make Peanut Butter

Making peanut butter is kind of magical! All you need to do is roast the peanuts in the oven, add the roasted peanuts into the blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy!

Since we are roasting our own peanuts, you’ll start by spreading shelled, raw skinless peanuts on a baking sheet in a single layer. Sprinkle them with the salt and roast them in the oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, tossing them a couple of times to ensure even roasting.

After the peanuts have roasted, allow them to cool for about 10 minutes and then add to a food processor or blender.

Blend the peanuts until smooth and creamy, or your preferred peanut butter texture. This will take about 5-10 minutes of blending.

๐Ÿ’ก Keep in mind that every blender and food processor is different, so the time it takes to blend into full creamy peanut butter may vary.

How To Store This Peanut Butter

Homemade peanut butter has a great shelf life! You can store peanut butter in an old peanut butter jar, mason jar, or airtight glass container for up to 3 months. It is recommended that you keep peanut butter stored in the refrigerator.

Tip For The Smoothest Peanut Butter

This may be obvious, but the longer you blend the peanuts the smoother the peanut butter will be. I personally don’t like my peanut butter so runny that it’s dripping out of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich, so I blend it until it’s just creamy enough but still thick.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Have To Roast The Peanuts?

No, you do not have to roast the peanuts to make peanut butter if you’re looking for a raw peanut butter recipe, however, I much prefer the taste of this peanut butter after the peanuts have been roasted and salted. It’s SO good!

What If I Like Crunchy Peanut Butter?

If you prefer crunchy peanut butter, that’s totally doable from this homemade peanut butter recipe. You could either not blend it all the way to creamy and leave peanut chunks, or you can reserve some roasted peanuts and fold those into the creamy peanut butter at the end.

What If My Peanuts Aren’t Turning Into Peanut Butter

If the peanuts are not blending into a smooth and creamy peanut butter it could be due to the blender or food processor you’re using. I do recommend investing in a high quality blender with the food processor attachment (no sponsored!). However, here are some tips:

Give it enough time to blend and turn into creamy peanut butter. Every blender is different and may take different amounts of time.

Stop the blender and scrape down the sides and re-blend if needed.

Add a tiny bit of water to get it moving along. Keyword… tiny! Too much and it won’t be peanut butter.

Add coconut oil. I know this is an oil-free peanut butter recipe, but if your peanut butter just really isn’t coming together you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil to get it moving and help it along. Keep in mind that using coconut oil will make the peanut butter harder when placed in the refrigerator and it won’t be as runny or spreadable.

Can I Use This Recipe For Other Nut & Seed Butters?

I have not tried to make another nut or seed butter with this recipe, such as cashew butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter, hazelnut butter, etc. However, I would assume that it will work. It may take longer, and I donโ€™t know the exact measurements of nuts or seeds youโ€™ll need but feel free to experiment with it!
