Smoothie Ingredients

all of the ingredients used to make this key lime pie smoothie in separate bowls.

Coconut milk. Coconut milk adds a rich, creamy texture and a subtle hint of tropical flavor, making it the perfect dairy-free base for this smoothie. Its natural fat content also enhances the overall smoothness.

Frozen bananas. Frozen bananas provide natural sweetness and a thick, frosty texture, giving the smoothie its signature creaminess without the need for ice or dairy. They also add essential nutrients like potassium and fiber.

Avocado. Avocado contributes an ultra-smooth, velvety consistency while offering healthy fats and a mild flavor that complements the other ingredients. It boosts the creaminess, color, and nutritional value of the smoothie.

Lime juice. Fresh lime juice delivers a bright, tangy zing that perfectly captures the essence of key lime pie. It balances the sweetness of the other ingredients with a refreshing citrus note.

Lime zest. Lime zest intensifies the citrus aroma and flavor, adding complexity and a burst of freshness. It brings an authentic, vibrant key lime character to the smoothie.

Maple syrup. Pure maple syrup acts as a natural sweetener, lending warmth and depth enhancing the dessert-like quality of the smoothie.

Vanilla. A splash of pure vanilla extract creates a classic, comforting flavor and ties together all the pie-inspired notes. It subtly elevates the sweetness and overall richness.

Graham cracker crumbs. Graham cracker crumbs add a nostalgic, pie-like finish with a touch of crunch and sweetness. I like to add the graham cracker crumbs right into the smoothie for enhanced pie flavor and then sprinkled on top, they complete the key lime pie experience in smoothie form. I used these gluten-free graham crackers and pulsed them in my food processor into crumbs.

How To Make This Key Lime Pie Smoothie

Add all the smoothie ingredients except the graham cracker crumbs to a blender, starting with the coconut milk. Blend on high until thick, smooth and creamy and there are no banana chunks left. Add the graham cracker crumbs and pulse a couple of time just to incorporate them. Pour the smoothie into glasses, top with dairy-free whipped cream (optional), and sprinkle with additional graham cracker crumbs and lime zest.

Tips & Variations

Want it extra thick? Use less coconut milk or freeze your avocado beforehand.

More limey flavor? Add an extra splash of lime juice or an extra pinch of lime zest into the blender.

Make it a smoothie bowl! Pour this dairy-free lime smoothie into a bowl and top with crushed graham crackers, coconut flakes, and you could even add some chopped fruit!

Up the pie vibe. This recipe already incorporates graham cracker crumbs right into the smoothie to really enhance the “pie” flavor, but if you’re looking for more, add an extra tablespoon!

Add lime-flavored yogurt! I made this smoothie twice with dairy-free key lime pie flavored yogurt and it was so delicious! unfortunately, dairy-free lime flavored yogurt can be tricky to find so I chose to omit it from the recipe. But feel free to add 1/4 cup if you find it!

Key Lime Pie Smoothie FAQs

Can I use fresh bananas instead of frozen?

Frozen bananas are key for a thick, creamy texture. If using fresh, add ice to chill and thicken it up.

Can I skip the graham cracker crumbs?

Yes, but they add that signature pie flavor! Opt for gluten-free graham-style cookies or you can even add some plain gluten-free granola instead!

How do I boost the green color of the smoothie?

I added 1/4 teaspoon of green spirulina powder to enhance the green “lime” color of this vegan key lime pie smoothie. Spirulina also slightly boosts the protein in this smoothie recipe!

Whether you’re craving a zesty summer treat or looking for a healthy alternative to dessert, this smoothie delivers all the tropical pie vibes—without the pie prep and bake time.
