Description

These Red, White & Blue Sour Frozen Grapes are coated in a naturally colored sweet-and-sour candy shell using beet powder, blue spirulina, and vitamin C powder. An easy frozen snack that’s perfect for the Fourth of July, summer parties, and healthy candy lovers!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups large green grapes, divided
  • 1 large lime
  • 3/4-1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2-4 teaspoons ascorbic acid (vitamin C) powder, divided
  • 1 teaspoon beet powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon blue spirulina powder

Instructions

  1. Wash the grapes thoroughly, remove the stems, and pat them completely dry. Dry grapes are essential for coating fully in the lime juice and getting the sugar coating to stick properly.
  2. Line a baking sheet (that fits in your freezer) with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl combine ¼ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon ascorbic acid, and 1 teaspoon beet powder.
  4. Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the grapes, stir them to coat each grape in the lime juice.
  5. Working with a few grapes at a time, toss them in the sugar mixture until fully coated.
  6. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet without spaced apart so they aren’t touching.
  7. Next, mix together ¼ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon ascorbic acid, and ½ teaspoon blue spirulina powder. Coat another cup of grapes completely in the blue sugar mixture, and transfer to the baking sheet.
  8. Finally combine ¼ cup sugar and ½–1 teaspoon ascorbic acid. Roll the remaining grapes in the white sugar mixture, and transfer to the baking sheet.
  9. Freeze the grapes for 2–3 hours, or until the coating has hardened. Enjoy straight from the freezer for the best crunchy, sour candy texture.
